I'm Paula Swope and This Is My Story

The Universe is an equal opportunity employer. At 29, I figured this out, and thank goodness I did because I was on a path of self-destruction and failure. I lived with my mother in a run-down neighborhood. I was dependent on my father for money. I could not find employment. I drank too much, smoked too much, associated with toxic people, and had empty, abusive relationships with men. I was a very unhappy, unsuccessful person. I didn’t look good. I didn’t feel good. And I cried a lot.

What I didn’t realize was that my negative thinking patterns were causing this unhappiness and havoc. When I learned my thoughts were destroying my life, everything that had happened to me up until that point suddenly made sense. Becoming aware of my thoughts was the first step I took on my road to happiness, love, and success. Although this is an easy step to take, it does not come natural to most of us because negative thinking is ingrained in our culture. Society teaches us to think negatively. After all, it is easier to believe the bad stuff, right? Well, I am here to help you rewire your brain to believe the good.

Before we go any further, you might be asking, “Why is SHE qualified to teach ME anything about my life?” When a person has 10,000 hours of practice with anything, that person is an expert or master performer in any field. I started studying metaphysics about fourteen (14) years ago. On average, there are 8,760 hours in one year. Times that number by 14 and you get 122,640. Roughly, that is how many hours I have spent in the cockpit. Going into metaphysics, I was hard-headed and had decades of negative social conditioning to reverse. I had to live and breathe my studies to train my brain to think differently.

Metaphysics

When I found metaphysics, I found the “secret.” There is an easier way to life. I turned my entire life around using metaphysical concepts, but the most significant step I took was learning to make a shift in my thinking patterns. One thought has the power to change everything, and I am living proof of that. I am 44 years old now and my world looks remarkably different than it did 14 years ago. Since I started practicing metaphysics, I have achieved success and I have manifested miracles. Seriously.

Law Of Attraction

I was the least likely person to become a spiritual gangster. Before I discovered metaphysical concepts, such as the laws of attraction, 99% of my actions and words were critical, judgmental, negative, and I carried a lot of hatred and jealousy around. I grew up in an environment that taught and encouraged negative thinking. This led to an overpowering belief that I had to take mediocre jobs to pay bills, accept being miserable to make ends meet, accept disrespectful treatment from others, and constantly do things I did not want to do. I was taught to be critical of others versus loving them, and I lived my life looking through the rearview mirror.

Living life this way is dangerous, because the Universe cannot distinguish between what is good or what is bad. The Universe gives you what you think about the most.

The Journey Of Writing My First Book

In March 2021, I self-published a self-help teaching memoir, Law of Attraction for Sinners: From Havoc to Happiness, Your Complete Guide to Manifesting Miracles. Although this book won the International Literary Award, I decided to forego launching it. I wasn’t happy with the editing, and knew the book deserved more than what I could give it operating as a one woman show. Currently, I am working with KN Literary (https://knliterary.com/about/) to help me navigate the traditional publishing process. The book is being rewritten right now as we speak, and it’s on track to be published at the end of the year. Updates will be published on my website, so stay tuned!

Consider my first book as a Metaphysics 101 class. This book is for the beginner. The person who knows nothing about metaphysics. It is written for the person who is being held back in life because of an “I can’t” mentality. It is written for the person that has bad habits, bad relationships, and bad luck. Most importantly, it is written for people that do not realize WHY bad things always come their way. More than likely, bad things happen more often than good things because of your thought patterns. I guarantee you do not realize this, and that’s what I am here for – To show you. Teaching you about how your thoughts create your world is my lifelong dream. Thank you for being here.

After much soul-searching, I decided against pursuing a publishing path for my self-help spiritual memoir, "Law of Attraction for Sinners: From Havoc to Happiness, Your Complete Guide to Manifesting Miracles." I have rewritten the book and given it a trendy makeover with a more marketable title in today's publishing world. The "Law of Attraction for Sinners" is the first book I wrote, so it's deeply personal. The spiritual lessons and the stories pack a powerful punch, so I won't let this book go to waste. At the moment, I am simply still deciding what to do with it; however, I am not undecided about its potential to help people struggling because of the social conditioning they received growing up. For this reason, I will share bits and pieces of the book with my followers. So, here is the first chapter. I hope you enjoy it!

The title of my new book (and this title is final) is Thought Snob: The Modern Spiritual Playbook for a Better Life.

Now In The Present, This Is Me

Here we are in 2023, and I can officially call myself an author, thought leader, social media influencer, spiritual coach, and Chopra Certified Meditation Instructor! Doing this work has been a dream of mine for a long time, and I am making it come true. Thank you for being here for it.  In my former life, I once worked at a construction company. I once owned a nail salon. I even sold shoes at Walmart. At 25, I went down a scholarly path that resulted in a bachelor’s degree in political science, a master’s degree in public administration, and a fruitful career in fundraising, event planning, data collection, data analysis, research, and grant writing.

Every so many years, I make bold lifestyle changes. In 2015, I made a life changing decision to leave my position as the Associate Director of Partners for Education at Berea College to become a grant professional consultant. After years of working with colleges and universities, I decided to pursue my passion of helping nonprofit organizations achieve sustainability. I always thought if I could make a decent living helping others, I would be happy. As it turns out, my passion for helping people led to fulfillment and happiness for myself and my clients.

I am a Kentucky native born and raised in the Eastern part of the state, and my accent is evidential proof of the geographical piece of my socialization. 2015 was filled with those life changing events I spoke of earlier. I was also married for the first time in 2015 at the age of 38. When I married my husband, Will, we moved to Louisville, KY. Philanthropy is deeply embedded in the culture of Louisville, and I was immediately given ample opportunities to put my unique skill set to excellent use in the community. During my career as a grant professional, I raised nearly $60M for various nonprofit agencies and school districts. Let’s just say I had a remarkable run!

Now, I'm helping people in a different way. I am legit living my dream as an author, speaker, and coach. With each published article, book, speaking engagement, and coaching session, I am closer to walking in the footsteps of a spiritual giant like my mentor Dr. Wayne Dyer. My life purpose is to help others find their life purpose, and once we find it, we work together to identify ways to live it every day. My work builds a person’s spiritual capacity to a level that positions them to manifest anything they want.

How I Spend My Free Time

I am a happily married mother of two dogs and 95% of my spare time is spent with them and my husband. I am a very passionate person, and my favorite things to do are driven by that passion. I take my hobbies as seriously as I do my career, because great inspiration and wisdom comes to me when I do what I love to do.

Christmas is my favorite time of the year, and I am obsessed with my decorations! I hand-make my mantles, wreaths, and Christmas arrangements, and by the time I’m done my decorations are comparable to what you see on display in Saks Fifth Avenue.

Traveling is at the top of my list of favorites, but it ranks a close second to my love of high-end fashion. But none of these things move me quite like music. Those that know me best immediately associate me with Elvis Presley as my love for him began in the womb. Elvis isn’t the only artist you’ll find in my iTunes library, though. My musical tastes are diverse, and they range from Machine Gun Kelly to Patsy Cline to Jay-Z to anything from the Motown era.

I call myself a nerd disguised in Gucci sunglasses. At first sight, you would never guess this because of the big hair and Jimmy Choos, but do not judge the exterior. I choose a scholarly journal or a challenging work project over something mindless or superficial any day of the week. Even in my spare time, I study, write, and research. I run from anything petty, my inner circle is small, and what I find most soothing to my soul is silence.
