Does Your Inner Speech Match Your Intentions?
Paula Swope
Years ago, I purchased Wayne Dyer’s book, The Power of Intention. Before I read this book, I had no idea how my inner speech was interfering with my life. For instance, I used to only focus on what was missing or what I did not like in my world. Well, focusing on everything that was wrong only attracted in more wrongness! Wayne Dyer taught me how to match my inner speech with my intentions, and taking this action changed my life. Here is how this works.

If you have been following my blogs, you know that many, many years ago I was in a living situation with my mother that made me miserable. During that time, I talked negatively about the situation and was constantly focused on everything I hated about the living situation. I said things like, “I hate this house and I hate this subdivision. I have no privacy.” Day in and day out I thought this way and talked this way and guess what. It got me nowhere.

My intention was to leave that house and acquire a place of my own, but my inner speech was not focused on that goal. On page 65 of The Power of Intention, Dyer explains this simple concept by explaining, “When your inner speech focuses on the way things have always been, you act upon your thoughts of what has always been, and the universal all-creating force continues to deliver what has always been.” You must make a shift in your thinking when you are focusing on what has always been. Here is an example.

Stagnant Inner Speech

“I hate this house I am living in. I have no privacy and I am so sick of sharing a space with another person. I am irritated all the time.”

Inner Speech that Matches to Intention

“I see my new home in my mind, and I see myself happily living in it. I see myself working in the yard and entertaining family and friends in the dining room. With my luck, I’ll get my new home quicker than I anticipated and at the perfect price.”

I am using the home scenario as an example only. The inner speech concept applies to everything in our lives from jobs to relationships to health and our overall quality of life. Moral of this story is stop complaining and shift your words to reflect the life you want versus the life you do not want (aka – The way things have always been).

Your words and your thoughts are two things you have complete control over. Your words and your thoughts can be your Superpower, or they can be your worst enemies. The glorious piece of this puzzle is that the Universe is there waiting for you to decide how your thoughts and words will serve you.
